Target Start date: 10/6/2025
 

Payrate: $25- $30/hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications 


Schedule:* Mondays/Tuesdays/Wednesdays 8:30a – 3:00p. 

*This position must accommodate a flexible work schedule including occasional weekend or evening hours for special events. 

Other days/times as needed, schedule may vary based on class demand and company needs, not to exceed 30 hours/week.

Founded in 1994 on the former Lowry Air Force Base, Wings Over the Rockies is a non-profit community organization dedicated to unlocking dreams of flight through exhibits, local events, and educational programming. We are Colorado’s premier Air & Space Museum having been recognized by CNN Travel as one of their 20 Best aviation museums in the world. Each year we welcome roughly 160,000 visitors representing all 50 states and dozens of countries internationally. We are committed to diversity, inclusion, and accessibility boasting more than 100,000 sq. ft. of open hanger space full of iconic aircraft, space vehicles, historical artifacts, and more. Visitors can experience thrilling flight simulators, discover educational programs, and participate in one of our many exciting museum-sponsored events. Job Summary 

Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum promotes and expands student achievement related to aerospace STEAM topics. This is a part time position which supports Wings’ educational mandate and responsibilities. Wings is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Part-Time Drone Pilot Instructor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching FAA Part 107 classes, drone flight safety, and piloting skills to high school and middle school students. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about drones and enjoys working with young learners in an informal museum education setting.

Duties & Responsibilities 


Teach FAA Part 107 Classes: 

  • Prepare and deliver comprehensive lessons that cover all aspects of the FAA Part 107 certification exam. 
  • Ensure Middle and High School students understand the legal requirements and regulations for operating drones. 


Drone Flight Safety: 

  • Educate students on safe drone operation practices. 
  • Emphasize the importance of adhering to FAA guidelines and local regulations. 


Drone Piloting Skills: 

  • Conduct hands-on training sessions to develop students' piloting skills. 
  • Teach students how to perform various maneuvers and handle different flight scenarios. 
  • Provide individualized attention to ensure each student progresses at their own pace. 


Class Management: 

  • Maintain a student-to-instructor ratio of no more than 12:1 (or lower) to ensure personalized instruction. 
  • Create an engaging and supportive learning environment for middle and high school students. 
  • Assess student progress and provide feedback to help them improve their skills. 


Equipment Maintenance: 

  • Ensure all drones and related equipment are in safe and working condition. 
  • Report any equipment issues and ensure they are addressed promptly. 


Safety and Compliance: 

  • Implement and enforce safety protocols during all classes and training sessions. 
  • Stay up to date with the latest FAA regulations and drone technology advancements. 


Requirements 

  • Valid FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate. 
  • Able to pass a background check. 
  • Proven experience as a drone pilot, with substantial flight hours. 
  • Previous teaching or instructional experience, particularly with middle or high school students, is preferred. 
  • Strong knowledge of drone technology, flight principles, and FAA regulations. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work with a small educational team. 
  • Ability to create engaging and informative lesson plans. 
  • Patience and the ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of individual students. 
  • Commitment to promoting safety and compliance in all aspects of drone operation.
